One of the few but important lessons burned into my memory from my long gone surfing days applies to small business. Simply put, as a small business owner you cannot focus on failure or in a surfing metaphor, when caught inside of a large incoming set, you must have the confidence to head straight into it and paddle for the horizon. Do not turn and run because like surfing, small business will challenge your skills and confidence every day.
Stay focused on your goals and never turn and run. You may find this act to go against your better instincts, but I promise you that no successful business in existence today is the result of doubt and defeatism. They are all the result of an absolute confidence to survive and succeed by their owners and managers.
