Les Nickeas <
Les Nickeas is our preferred small engine mechanic. Les has been working on engines for customers in Ventura and Channel Islands Harbors for decades. I have never seen someone diagnose an engine problem by phone with a customer on the back side of Santa Cruz as well as he. Les is consientious and cares deeply about his work and his customers. I have the utmost faith in Les. One must be patient with Les as he is very popular and has yet to embrace the modern age. You will not find a PDA or computer on Les' shop desk. You may however get lucky when looking for an exhaust manifold on a 1972 Perkins diesel or something of that vintage. Truly top notch when it comes to, Yanmar,Universal,Westerbeke, Mercruiser and the oldies too like Perkins, Gray and Atomic. THANKS LES!
< Judith Collier, Boat Name Artist.
Judith painted her first boat name in 1965! She is wonderful and takes great pride in her work. What a small world! It turns out that she was great friends with one of my oldest family friends from old Santa Barbara days, Robin Hill who actually built and sailed his Samson Ketch "Malaika" from Santa Barbara to Peru and back again in the 70's. Judith usually travels with her dog Heather whom you will always find nearby. THANKS JUDITH!!
Mike Kelly, Rigger >Mike Kelly has been working in Ventura Harbor since the pond was scooped out. As a matter of fact, Mike was the first harbor patrolman and his drawing is still present on all VPD vessels as the port district logo. Mike is extremely knowledgable about sailboat rigging. He also owns his own boatyard and is a master craftsman in the fabrication of custom radio controlled model sailboats. You can check out his work at www.pondboats.com THANKS MIKE!!
